The WPNC committee is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Loraine Unicomb; President of the West Pymble Netball Club. Our hearts go out to her family in particular Stefanie and Madi. Loraine fought a mighty battle with breast cancer but ultimately it won as cancer too often does.
Loraine passed on Monday 18 May. Her funeral was held on Friday 22 May for family. WPNC will celebrate Loraine’s life when we are in a freer post COVID-19 world. We have created a Tribute page. If you would like to leave a message please click on the tab on this website “Loraine Unicomb”.
There are not enough words to describe Loraine and the contribution she has made to the West Pymble netball club and community. She unselfishly gave hours and hours of her time to ensure that we all had a club that we could be proud of and one we could have confidence in.
Loraine held many positions within the WPNC which included:
• President (2013 – present)
• Committee member: Coaches and managers coordinator (2009 – 2013)
• Coach: 2005 – present
• Grader: 2009 – present
She was also on the executive for KNA.
Loraine was awarded the 2018 Lion’s Club of Ku-ring-gai community service award for Services to Sport, plus she was also presented with many other accolades from KNA for umpiring and contributions made to the community
Loraine was an amazing president and person. Despite working full time she crammed so much netball into her life. She was fair, generous, dedicated but firm when she had to be. Her guiding philosophy was to make every member of WPNC feel part of the broader family, treated fairly and valued. It is her values that have shaped this club and we are going to deeply miss her guidance, her wisdom, her humour and care. She will always be the inspirational heart of our club.
Please take a moment to remember Loraine. The world would be a truly special place if we all could have the attitude and energy of Loraine. We have lost a special person, mother, club member, president.
